New development: Electrolyte filling adapter – for round and prismatic lithium-ion cells

Filling the cell with electrolyte is a central process in battery production. The newly developed ViscoTec dispenser of the vipro-PUMP EV series is the dosing solution for pressure-controlled electrolyte filling of hardcase battery cells – for cylindrical or round as well as prismatic cells. The new product will be presented for the first time at the Battery Show in Stuttgart from June 3 to 5, 2025 in Hall 10, Stand D46.

More Information

  • Pressure-controlled electrolyte filling of hardcase battery cells
Pressure is an important factor when filling battery cells. It has a significant influence on the quality and safety of the cell. A defined pressure curve is crucial to ensure optimum filling, high safety and a long service life of the battery cells. If the pressure is too high, cell components can be damaged, cells can be deformed, or electrolyte distribution can be uneven. If the pressure is too low, the electrolyte may not penetrate completely into all cell areas, which reduces performance. If the pressure is too low, this can lead to poor contact between the electrolyte and the electrodes, the formation of bubbles or the layers inside the cell becoming detached. All in all, these are causes of impaired electrical conductivity or efficiency and charging capacity.
  • „One dock filling“ evacuation and filling in one step
The customized evacuation and filling with the vipro-PUMP EV after docking onto the battery cell ensures that no air bubbles or gases are trapped. The process also ensures that the electrolyte penetrates evenly into all pores and gaps in the cell components. Both increase the efficiency and service life of the cell. In addition, the simultaneous step minimizes the risk of contamination or pollution of the cell. It saves time and simplifies production, which reduces production costs and facilitates quality assurance. The simultaneous process also helps to avoid pressure fluctuations within the cell – for mechanical stability and safety.
  • Precisely adjustable dosing parameters
Precise, repeatable dosing enables an optimally adapted filling process. Thanks to the ViscoTec solution, the dosing parameters are easily scalable and flexible in terms of battery cell types and sizes. The precise setting ensures that the correct amount of electrolyte is introduced into the cell and distributed evenly. This improves the electrical conductivity and keeps the internal structure of the cell stable. The right amount of electrolyte is crucial for the optimum performance, charging capacity and efficiency of each individual cell. Precise dosing parameters help to minimize risks such as pressure build-up, gas formation or even cell failure. And they ensure a high level of reproducibility and quality assurance.
  • Electrolyte-resistant materials
Electrolytes in battery cells contain aggressive substances that the materials in the dosing system must be able to withstand. Otherwise, components can flake off or dissolve, allowing impurities to enter the electrolyte. The materials used in the vipro-PUMP EV resist chemical attack and are perfectly suited for use in battery cell filling. They impress with their long service life and low maintenance requirements. And ensure precise and even dosing.
  • No dripping thanks to adjustable suckback
Thanks to the proven ViscoTec endless piston principle, dripping of the material to be dispensed is prevented by means of a short retraction at the end of the dispensing process.
